Saturday, March 13th brings the 38th TFD/TFFA Spaghetti Dinner which supports the Alisha Ann Ruch California Burn Foundation. Donations ($6.00 adults, $4.00 under 8) will help send a child to Burn Survivor Champ Camp. The event begins at 4:00 PM for Seniors, all others 4:30 PM to 8:00 PM, and will be held at the Ken Miller Recreation Center, Torrance Blvd. at Madrona Ave. If you have not volunteered yet, there is still time. We have openings for 4-6 PM and 6-8 PM shifts. If you can't volunteer, come eat, it's great food, and the firefighter's wives and kids always bake the best desserts!

Wednesday, March 17th, Zone Captain #6, KK Fitch, will introduce Shant Megerdichian, Operations Manager for the General Aviation Center. Shant will have a program on the GAC itself as an alternate EOC, if the main EOC at TPD should become unusable. Chances are Caroline will have green food.

Thursday, March 25th, the Torrance Police Department requests your presence to 'Tip-a-Cop'. The event will be held at the Elephant Bar and Grill, 21227 Hawthorne Blvd., Torrance, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. 'Tip-a-Cop' benefits the Southern California Special Olympics Athletes and Programs. Guaranteed good service from the guys at TPD.

Special Olympics is June 12 and 13 at Cal State Long Beach 7:30am to 4:00pm and we need about 15 radio operators per day. This is a worthwhile event and a good experience. Registration will be a bit different this year, they are doing it online. If you can help out please let me know so that I can get you the registration links as soon as they get them to me. They will be setting up a special catagory for communicators to register. Also give me your tshirt size so that we can get you a Special Olympics Tshirt.

This year is the hundredth anaversery of scouting and a special event has been planned that they need communicators for. The dates will be Friday May 21 starting 2:00pm until 10:00pm and Saturday May 22. Starting 8:00am until 4:00pm. The location is Whittier Narrows. Around 4000 people are expected so this is a large event, and a good chance to show off amatuer radio to the next generation. There will be a lot of interesting events going on.
Here is info on the event.
Meals will be provided (Scouts are good cooks) and if anyone would like to camp with us they are welcome as well. I can provided tents for anyone that needs them. There are a couple of off site venues, so if you have mobile equipment in your car please let me know. Please let me know if you can help early as there is a form to fill out to make sure you are on the Scout insurance if you are not already registered.

TARA Message #5

Monday, March 29th is the 5th Monday and we will once again do 2 meter checkins from the individual ADCs.
This time we would like each ADC and operator do something different than you did the last time. For example, if you checked in to your ADC on your base station, this time do it with your HT or mobile. If you have only one radio, try using it from a different location. If you used Edison power with your base station the last time, use your backup (battery/generator) power.
Your Zip Captain will ask you what you are doing that is different from the first time, so mix it up; if and when the real thing comes along we will need to be as flexible and a prepared as possible. Zip Captains should try something different as well; work it from your car or even from home. I know 90505 is going to work from a different ADC, but if you have only one ADC use your imagination.
Remember this is for 2 meters only. Both 220 checkins will be through the EOC as usual.
